What it does
Two additions to the community surfaces of the chat, shipped in 1.182.0. First, every row of the six member boards of the Leaderboard shows the member's plan next to the name: a Pro, Plus or Free pill (the two usage boards added in 1.184.0, Providers and Models, rank CLIs and models, not people, so their rows carry no pill). Clicking a Pro badge when your own account is not Pro opens the Pro upgrade offer ("Join the Pro members"); for a Pro member the badge is inert. Second, a setting, Allow other members to contact me, lets two members who both turned it on open a private conversation without sharing a project, from a leaderboard row or from a username in a Community thread or room. The option is off by default, the contact is mutual, and the email address of a member reached this way is never shared.
Where to find it
- Plan badges: Community in the top bar (called Chat before 1.184.0), then the Leaderboard shortcut at the bottom of the conversation list ("What the community launches, builds and shares"), on any of the six member boards (Agents, Skills, Feedback & bugs, Rage Room, Activity, Referrals), on the podium as well as in the rows. The Providers and Models tiles show CLIs and models: no badge, nothing to click. Community threads keep their existing convention: Pro and Plus badges, nothing for Free.
- The setting: Settings > Privacy & data > Contact between members > Allow other members to contact me.
- The contact gesture: any leaderboard row of another member (tooltip "Send a message to Name"), or the username above a bubble in a Community thread or room.
How to use it
- Turn on Allow other members to contact me in Settings > Privacy & data. Nothing else changes: you simply become reachable by the members who did the same.
- Open the Leaderboard and click the row of a member, or click a username in a Community thread or room.
- If that member allows contact and you do too, a private thread opens in the chat list under their username, with the subtitle Community member instead of an email address. Write as in any direct conversation.
If you click a member while your own option is still off, a prompt ("Write to Name") explains that contact works both ways and offers Allow and write: one click turns the option on for you and opens the thread. Not now closes the prompt.
If the member has not allowed contact, the prompt says "Name cannot be reached yet" and offers Allow contact for me, so you become reachable by the members who did enable it. There is no dead click: every username and every row of another member answers with a thread or an explanation.
To stop, turn the option off. Existing community threads close for writing on both sides (the composer reads "This conversation is closed: one of you no longer allows other members to contact them"); the history stays readable. Threads with a member you share a project with are not affected.
Settings
- Settings > Privacy & data > Contact between members > Allow other members to contact me: off by default. Saved on your account, so it applies on every computer. Not exposed to agents: there is no settings key for it.
Agent tools (MCP)
None.
Providers
All providers, no difference.
Mobile
The leaderboards, the plan badges and the setting are not on the mobile companion. A private thread opened with a community member does appear in the phone's chat list, under the member's username, with the preview Community while the thread is empty. Writing from the phone follows the same rule: if either member turned the option off, the thread is closed for writing.
Limits
- The setting is off by default for everyone, so at launch nobody is reachable until they turn it on.
- Contact is mutual: your option on is not enough, the other member must have turned theirs on too. The server checks both on opening and on every message.
- A leaderboard row is clickable only when it belongs to another member with an AgentsRoom account; your own row is not, and the rows of the Providers and Models boards (a CLI, a model) are not either.
- The email address of a member reached through the community is never shown, in the thread header or in the list. Members who share a project with you keep the usual direct-thread behaviour.
- The Pro badge opens the upgrade offer only for Free and Plus accounts; a Pro account sees a plain badge.
- Turning the option off does not delete the threads: they stay readable, closed for writing, and reopen if both members turn it on again.
Common questions
- Why can I not write to this member? They have not turned on Allow other members to contact me, or you have not. Both are needed. The prompt tells you which side is missing.
- Does the member see my email address? No. A thread opened through the community shows Community member instead of an email, on both sides.
- I turned the option off and my thread says the conversation is closed. Expected: switching the option off closes your community threads for writing. Turn it on again to resume; nothing was deleted.
- What does the Free badge mean? The member is on the free plan. It is shown only on the leaderboards, where every member's plan is visible; community threads show Pro and Plus only.
- I clicked a Pro badge and nothing happened. Your account is already Pro: the badge is inert for Pro members.
