Project Window

  • Desktop app
  • All plans

What it does

Opens a project in a window of its own, pinned to that project: one window per project, as many windows as you have projects. Put each one full screen on its own virtual desktop (macOS Spaces, Windows or Linux virtual desktops) and switch between projects with the system gesture or shortcut instead of clicking tiles. Unlike the floating terminals and Commands windows, a project window never follows the main window's project switch.

Where to find it

  • Right-click a project tile in the opened-projects row at the top of the sidebar: Open in its own window. Once open, the same entry reads Show its window.
  • The ⋮ menu of a project card (projects home, project switcher): Open in its own window.

How to use it

  1. Right-click the project tile and choose Open in its own window. A window titled after the project opens, carrying the complete workspace for that project: the sidebar, the agent panel with its search, filters and sections, the room, the right panel (Files, Changes, Tests) and the status bar. A tile already detached shows the tooltip Opened in its own window.
  2. Click an agent to open its terminal there; an agent without a session starts in that window. A team run of the project shows its run box and the progress of its steps there too, including a run already under way when the window opens.
  3. macOS: the green button puts the window full screen on its own Space. Windows / Linux: maximize it and move it to another virtual desktop.
  4. The main window leaves that project as soon as it is detached, so the same agents are never shown twice on screen (since 2026-09-23); its tile stays in the opened row as the way back. Clicking the tile shows a notice instead of the terminal, with Show the window and Bring it back here (closes the window, the terminal comes back).
  5. Clicking one of that project's agents in the main window opens it in the project window.
  6. Closing the window (or Bring it back here) hands the project back to the main window; the agents keep running.

Settings

None. Project windows are reopened on the next launch when "Restore the session on launch" is on, like the other detached windows.

Agent tools (MCP)

None.

Providers

All providers, no difference.

Mobile

Not present on the mobile companion: an OS window has no phone equivalent. The phone sees the project's agents as usual, whichever window displays them.

Limits

  • A few things live in the main window only, because the app can only have one of them: restoring the session at launch, the task and message scheduler, the mobile and MCP bridges (an agent started by agents_spawn is born in the main window, then its session shows up here), the update and quota watchers, automatic account switching, the Open space and the remote Fleet view.
  • One PTY is never shown in two windows: while a project lives in its own window, the main window and the floating terminals window show the notice instead of that project's terminals, agent consoles and dev command terminals alike.
  • Window position and size are not remembered, like the other detached windows.
  • An event is announced once, not once per window: the push notification, the desktop banner and the sound each go out a single time even when several project windows are open.

Common questions

  • I already detached the Commands window, is there a conflict? No. The Commands window keeps following the main window's active project. A project that lives in its own window runs its dev command terminals there, next to its agents.
  • The floating terminals window shows a notice instead of my agents. The project it is showing lives in its own window; use Show the window, or Bring it back here to return the terminals.
  • My screenshot landed in the main window instead of my project window. Fixed on 2026-09-23: the screenshot shortcut, pressed from another app, now attaches the capture to the composer of the project window you used last (or the one in front), not to the main window.
  • Can I open the same project twice? No: asking again focuses the existing window.
  • What happens if I close the project in the main window? Its window closes too.
  • My project window showed a lone agent instead of the team I launched. Fixed on 2026-09-23: the window now shows the team's run box and follows its progress.
  • My project window suddenly said "No agent yet" while agents were running. Fixed on 2026-09-23: a change to the project list made in another window no longer empties the agents of a project window.
  • Split View: multiple agents side by side inside one window, and the floating terminals window.
  • Dev Terminals: the floating Commands window.
  • Agent Notifications: one notification per event, whatever the number of open windows.
