What it does

Makes the app look the way you want: light, dark or system theme, an accent color applied to buttons, borders, focus rings and active states, replaceable interface fonts, a global zoom for tired eyes, and a "calm rendering" switch that stops decorative animations. Agents get a custom avatar too: upload an image or pick one of the role portraits. Terminal panes have their own theme and font choice. On the phone, a Text size setting makes all text larger, terminal and conversation included.

Where to find it

  • Settings > Appearance: Theme, Accent color, Fonts, Zoom, Motion.
  • Footer: the Light / dark switch toggles the theme without opening Settings.
  • Footer, left of the Settings button: a zoom chip ("Interface zoom: N%") appears only while the zoom is not 100%.
  • Settings > Terminal: Theme (Follow app theme / Always dark / Always light) and Font for terminal panes.
  • Agent avatar: open an agent's Edit Agent modal, Customize avatar.
  • Phone: Settings > Appearance > Text size.

How to use it

  1. Theme: Settings > Appearance > Theme, choose Light, Dark or System.

  2. Accent: hover a swatch to preview it live, click to apply. Seven presets (Peach is the default, then Ocean, Forest, Violet, Rose, Amber, Steel), or Pick a custom color. Reset to default returns to Peach.

  3. Fonts: for the Headline font, the Body font, the Writing font (composer, chat, prompt editors) and the File names font (file names and paths in the file tree, Changes, diffs and commits), search a Google Fonts family by name, or upload a .ttf / .otf / .woff / .woff2 file. Downloaded fonts are kept locally, so they keep working offline. Reset restores the stock font. Some slots also offer Included faces, applied in one click without a download: for file names, Iosevka, Geist Mono and IBM Plex Mono. File names use Geist by default.

  4. Zoom: Zoom in / Zoom out / Back to 100%, or Cmd/Ctrl + and Cmd/Ctrl - anywhere, Cmd/Ctrl 0 to reset. The zoom applies to every AgentsRoom window and is remembered. While it is not 100%, the footer shows the level; click that chip to go back to 100% (same as Cmd/Ctrl 0).

  5. Motion: Calm rendering turns decorative loops (glows, sheens, status pulses) off; loaders keep spinning. Worth it on very large or high-refresh displays.

  6. Phone text size: Settings > Appearance > Text size, tap + (Larger text) or - (Smaller text) to step through 100, 115, 130, 150 and 175%. The whole app resizes at once and the preview under the buttons shows the result. Back to 100% appears while the size is not 100%.

Avatar: upload (cropped to a square) or pick a preset portrait, preview, then Save. The avatar travels with the agent when it is shared.

Settings

  • uiZoom (global, Settings > Appearance > Zoom): zoom factor, 0.75 to 2, 1 = 100%.
  • calmRendering (global, Settings > Appearance > Motion): stop decorative animations; off by default.
  • disableHardwareAcceleration (global, Settings > Appearance > Rendering > Disable hardware acceleration): draw the interface on the processor instead of the graphics card; off by default. Takes effect at the next launch (Restart now is offered).
  • terminalThemeOverride (global, Settings > Terminal): auto, dark or light for terminal panes.
  • terminalFontFamily (global, Settings > Terminal): terminal font id, empty = IBM Plex Mono.
  • Theme mode, accent and interface fonts are stored on this machine only and are not exposed as settings keys.
  • Phone Text size is stored on the phone only, and is not a settings key either (nothing to set over MCP).

Agent tools (MCP)

  • settings_set on uiZoom, calmRendering, disableHardwareAcceleration, terminalThemeOverride, terminalFontFamily.

Mobile

The phone has its own Settings > Appearance with Auto, Light and Dark (Dark keeps agent output on a real terminal background), and Text size: 100, 115, 130, 150 or 175%, applied on top of the text size set in the phone's own settings (iOS Larger Text, Android Font size), so 100% means exactly what the phone says. Accent and fonts are desktop only (file names on the phone use its text font, with no setting), and so is the desktop zoom, which the phone replaces with Text size (it scales the text, not the layout); the phone always shows agents with their role portrait.

Limits

  • Theme, accent and fonts are machine-local: they do not follow your account to another computer.
  • A custom accent uses the same color in light and dark mode; presets are tuned per mode.
  • Fetching a Google Font needs an internet connection once; nothing else is sent.
  • Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi and Thai interfaces download a matching Noto Sans face on demand, piece by piece, and keep it on disk. Offline on the first launch, the system font is used instead. Not on mobile, where the system font already covers these scripts.
  • On Windows and Linux, Ctrl + may need Ctrl = (without Shift) depending on the keyboard layout; the menu items always work.
  • Phone text size is per device and does not follow your account. The terminal keeps at least 40 columns, so on a narrow phone it stops growing around 130% while the conversation view keeps growing; the terminal also follows the phone's own text size when that is above 100%.

Common questions

  • Can I keep the terminal dark while the app is light? Yes: Settings > Terminal > Theme > Always dark.
  • The text is too small. Desktop: Settings > Appearance > Zoom, or Cmd/Ctrl + repeatedly; it is remembered across launches. Phone: Settings > Appearance > Text size (or the phone's own text size, which the app already follows).
  • Noise or "frost" creeps across the window and text garbles until I hover it. That comes from the display driver. Turn on Settings > Appearance > Disable hardware acceleration and restart: the interface is then drawn on the processor.
  • AgentsRoom makes my GPU work hard on a large or high refresh rate screen. Turn on Calm rendering (Settings > Appearance > Motion): decorative animations stop, loaders keep spinning.
  • Is my accent color sent anywhere? No, it is purely local.
  • The zoom chip appeared in the footer, what is it? The interface is zoomed (often a Cmd/Ctrl + pressed by accident). Click the chip to return to 100%.
  • File names look different than before, can I change them? Yes: Settings > Appearance > Fonts > File names font. Iosevka, the former narrow face, is still one click away under the included faces.
  • Can I use my company font? Yes, upload the font file in Settings > Appearance > Fonts.
