Agent Reply Language

What it does

Decides which language your agents answer in, whatever language you write in. Without it, every CLI mirrors the language of the message it just received: someone who writes sometimes in German and sometimes in English gets answers, phone notifications and tab titles that flip-flop between the two. AgentsRoom injects a standing instruction in the boot prompt of every agent, on every provider, so the answers follow one rule: the interface language by default, a fixed language of your choice, or the legacy "mirror my prompt" behaviour.

Where to find it

Settings > Language > Agent replies. Options: Same as the app, Same as my prompt, or one of the 20 interface languages.

How to use it

  1. Open Settings > Language.
  2. Under Agent replies, pick Same as the app (default: follows the interface language, which itself follows the OS unless you forced one), a specific language, or Same as my prompt.
  3. Start or restart the agents: the setting applies to agents launched after the change.

The directive is a default, not a cage: asking an agent for another language in a message, a project's own instruction files, and messages addressed to a third party all win over it.

Settings

  • agentLanguage (global, Settings > Language > Agent replies): a language code, ui (same as the app, default) or prompt (mirror each prompt).
  • language (global, Settings > Language > Language): the interface language the ui value follows.

Agent tools (MCP)

None. Agents can read the value with settings_get like any setting, but the instruction reaches them through their boot prompt.

Providers

All providers, no difference: the instruction is part of the system prompt AgentsRoom builds for every CLI (Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and the others).

Mobile

No setting on the phone. An agent launched from the mobile companion is spawned by the desktop with the desktop's setting, so its answers and notifications follow the same rule.

Limits

  • Applies to agents started after the change; a running session keeps the language it started with.
  • Resumed sessions do not replay the system prompt, so a resumed agent keeps its previous behaviour.
  • Covers answers, notifications and tab titles written by the agent; it does not translate the CLI's own interface text.

Common questions

  • My agent answers in English although the app is in French. Check Settings > Language > Agent replies is Same as the app or French, then relaunch the agent.
  • Can one agent answer in another language? Yes, ask it in the message; the explicit request wins over the default.
  • Does it change the language of my prompts or of the code? No, only the agent's replies. Code, identifiers and quoted material stay as they are.
