Agent Tooling Status

What it does
A small plug button in each agent panel header tells you whether that agent's CLI actually loaded the AgentsRoom tools: the AgentsRoom MCP server (backlog, memory, commands...), the embedded browser server when the agent has browser access, the status hooks, and the skills it was started with. AgentsRoom writes each CLI's MCP config at launch, but a written config proves nothing: the pill only turns green once the CLI has really listed the tools. It costs the agent nothing: the proof travels from the MCP server to the desktop, never through the conversation, so no token is spent.
Where to find it
Inside a project, open an agent: the plug button is the first of the panel header's icon buttons, on the right, just left of the Agent Mail envelope. A green dot in its corner means everything is live; the icon turns amber or red (and the plug unplugs) when something needs a look. Hover it to read the summary, click it to see every tool by name.
How to use it
- Hover the pill: a card lists each AgentsRoom MCP server (Backlog, memory, commands, Embedded browser, Your Chrome) with Loaded, Waiting, Not loaded or Older version and its tool count, then Status hooks and Skills.
- Click the button (or See all tools in the card): a window lists every tool the CLI loaded from AgentsRoom, by name, grouped by server then by family (backlog, memory, commands...), with a filter bar.
- When the dot is amber or red, click Restart agent in the card: the agent resumes its conversation and the CLI reloads its tools.
States: Live (all proven), Starting (the CLI is still loading its tools, grey dot), Needs a look (something is missing or out of date), Missing (the AgentsRoom MCP server never answered), Not available (the CLI has no MCP support, or the tools are turned off for that remote machine).
Status hooks are only proven by the first turn: before you send a message they read After the first turn, which is not a fault. Skills show how many were injected at launch, and how many were edited since (edited since): an edited skill only reaches the agent after a restart.
Settings
uiElements.agentPanel.toolingPill(global, Settings > Interface elements > Agent panel > AgentsRoom tools status (still shown when something is missing)): unticked, the button disappears while everything is live but still shows, tinted, when something is wrong. Default: shown.
Agent tools (MCP)
None. The agent can describe its own wiring with capabilities_get({ topic: "runtime" }).
Providers
All providers with an MCP client (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI, Antigravity, OpenCode, Grok Build, Mistral Vibe, Kimi Code, Amp, oh-my-pi, Freebuff, Devin, Cursor). Aider has no MCP client: its pill reads Not available. Status hooks exist for Claude Code, Grok Build, Cursor and OpenCode; for the other CLIs the row reads Not used by this CLI, which is normal. Agents launched on a remote machine over SSH are covered too.
Mobile
Present: the agent console header on the phone shows the same plug button with its dot, first of the header actions. A tap opens a sheet with the same summary and the full list of tools. Restarting the agent is done from the desktop.
Limits
- The proof is per console: a restart starts over (grey dot until the CLI lists its tools again).
- Missing is only shown once the CLI is ready for at least 30 seconds or has finished a turn, so a slow first launch reads Starting, not a fault.
Common questions
- My agent says it has no backlog or memory tool, how do I check? Look at the plug button in its header: a red dot and Missing in its card confirm the CLI did not load the AgentsRoom MCP server. Click Restart agent in the card.
- Does this indicator use tokens? No. The MCP server signals the desktop directly, nothing is added to the conversation.
- Why does Status hooks say "After the first turn"? Hooks only fire when the agent works: send a first message and it turns to Received.
- Which tools exactly does my agent have? Click the plug button: the window lists every AgentsRoom tool its CLI loaded, by name.
- I edited a skill but the agent ignores it. The card shows 1 edited since: skills are injected at launch, restart the agent to load the new version.
