Interface Elements

What it does

Lets you hide, one by one, the small chrome elements you never use: the Community button of the title bar, the banners and toolbar of the agents column, the buttons of the dock, the decorations and floating controls of an agent panel, the pills of the footer, the tabs and blocks of the right panel, the buttons of the dev command bar. Hiding an element never turns off the feature behind it, it only removes it from the screen, and everything is visible by default, so a new element always shows up for everyone.

Since 2026-09-15 an interface mode (Simple, Balanced, Full) can fold a whole preset of these elements at once, under your own choices: see Interface Modes.

Where to find it

  • Settings > Interface elements, in the "Appearance & layout" group: one collapsible card per surface, top of the window to bottom (Title bar, Agents column, Dock, Agent panel, Right panel, Dev command bar, Footer), one checkbox per element.
  • Right-click the surface itself (the footer, the right panel header, the dev command tab strip): the same list with a check next to each visible element, plus Configure elements… which opens the matching card in Settings. The title bar, agents column, dock and agent panel have no right-click menu: use Settings.
  • Settings itself is opened from the footer since 2026-09-16: the gear left the title bar and is now the first chip of the footer's right cluster, before the interface mode chip, the theme switch and the version. The account bubble (your avatar and name in the title bar) has a Settings tile too, and Cmd+, (Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux) still opens it.
  • In Simple mode the Interface elements tab is folded out of the Settings navigation: reach it through Configure element by element… in the mode picker, a search, or Show all settings at the bottom of the navigation.

How to use it

  1. Right-click the footer (or open Settings > Interface elements).
  2. Uncheck what you do not want to see. The element disappears immediately.
  3. To get it back, tick it again in the same menu or in Settings. Hidden elements are listed as Hidden.

A line greyed out with Folded by the Simple mode (or Balanced) is hidden by the interface mode, not by you: its checkbox still records your own choice, which comes back as soon as you switch to a mode that shows the element. To see it right away, change the mode from the footer chip.

Since 1.181.0 every window opened from the dock (Backlog, Radar, Commands, SSH connections, Databases, Secrets, Triggers, Preview, Prompts, Skills, Memory) opens at one and the same large size: 95% of the app window, its top edge always below the title bar. Moving from one dock window to another no longer resizes the sheet; a form or confirmation dialog opened on top keeps its own size.

Title bar: Community (the community panel button, called Chat before 1.184.0). Agents column: Open space, the Local storage only. banner, Clean up agents, Message every agent, Activity / Groups switch, Quick agent, Suggest a model from my prompt, Search agents, the Agents found on disk banner, Add Team, the “When it runs” chips (scheduled, quota, webhook, on demand), Guided tour. Dock: Radar, Backlog, Commands & connections, Triggers, Preview, Prompts library, Skills library, Project memory. Agent panel: Morph agent (the role pill), Tokens badge, First prompt line, Jump to top, Fullscreen, Conversation, Hide the input box.

Footer elements: Mobile, Chrome extension, Todo, Processes, Usage, Setup assistant, Light / dark switch, Update indicator, Version number. The Settings chip is not in the list: it cannot be hidden. Right panel: the Files & Changes panel itself (unticked, the panel stays closed and its side rail is not drawn), the Files / Changes / Tests tabs, then the blocks of the Changes tab (Branch and sync state, Fetch, pull, push, Review, Unpushed commits, Filter by agent, Search in changed files, Commit box). Dev command bar: New terminal, Commands, Servers, Databases.

Settings

  • composerInputHidden (global, Settings > Composer > Hide input box): removes the message input bar at the bottom of every agent pane, for people who type straight into the CLI's own prompt. One click hides it: the small button at the top right of the input box, next to Expand (Hide the input box). Once the box is gone, a round button at the bottom right of the pane (Show the input box) sits where it was and brings it back.

  • uiElements (global, Settings > Interface elements): per-element visibility map, one boolean per element under titleBar, sidebar, dock, agentPanel, rightPanel, devBar and footer; a missing entry means visible. The interface mode folds its preset under this map without writing into it: an element the mode folds stays hidden whatever the map says.

  • uiMode (global, Settings > Interface mode): simple, balanced or full; see Interface Modes.

Agent tools (MCP)

  • settings_get / settings_set on uiElements: read or change the map.
  • settings_set on uiMode: fold or unfold a whole preset at once.

All providers, no difference.

Mobile

Not on the mobile companion; the phone has its own fixed layout.

Limits

  • The right panel can never lose all three tabs: if every tab is hidden it falls back to Files. The changed-files list itself is not configurable.
  • The update indicator comes back on its own when the auto-update has failed several times in a row (Update blocked), even if hidden: a failure is not a decoration. See Auto-update.
  • This is a display setting, not a feature switch: to turn a tool off (backlog, dev commands, live preview) use Settings > Features.
  • A few controls refuse to disappear while they are the only way back: Show the input box while the input box is hidden, Fullscreen and Conversation while that view is active, the dev command bar while a command tab is open. Search agents comes back by itself once a project has many agents.
  • The Settings chip, the interface mode chip of the footer and the Interface mode tab of Settings are not elements: they can never be hidden, since they are the way back to every other choice.
  • The size of the dock windows is not adjustable: they all open at 95% of the app window.

Common questions

  • Does Escape close a window? Yes, every window that has a close button closes with Escape since 2026-09-30, and only the topmost one: a ticket opened from the global backlog closes first, the backlog on the next press. A layer that uses Escape itself (an open menu, the drawing tool of a sketch) keeps the key first.

  • Can I hide the message box under an agent and type in the CLI directly? Yes: Settings > Composer > Hide input box, or the small button at the top right of the input box next to Expand. A round button at the bottom right of the pane brings it back. Messages still go through the terminal.

  • Where did the Settings gear of the title bar go? To the footer, bottom right, first chip before the interface mode. Cmd+, (Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux) and the Settings tile of the account bubble open the same window.

  • The Backlog window used to be much bigger than the Commands one. Since 1.181.0 they share one size (95% of the app window), so the sheet no longer jumps when you switch between dock windows.

  • Where did the Launch override chip of the footer go? Since 2026-09-23 it is a row at the top of the Usage panel (Temporary launch override): click the usage badge to open it. It is no longer an element of the list.

  • I hid the version number, how do I read the changelog? Tick Version number again (right-click the footer), then click it.

  • What is the difference with Settings > Features? Features disables a capability; Interface elements only hides a chip, tab or block while the feature keeps working.

  • Does it apply to detached windows? The right panel settings apply wherever the panel is rendered, including the terminal preview window.

  • A checkbox is ticked but the element is not on screen. Look for Folded by the … mode on its line: the interface mode hides it. Switch to Full from the footer chip, or keep the mode and accept the fold.
