Idea Box
- Desktop, mobile and web
- All plans
What it does
A backlog board that belongs to your account instead of a project. It holds the ideas that have no project yet: you write them as ordinary tickets (title, prompt, type, tags, images), refine them over time, and move each one to the board of a project when it is ready to be worked on. The idea box is the same kanban as a project board, with the same columns and the same ticket form; the only thing it cannot do is run an agent, because there is no repository to run it in. Available since 2026-09-15 (version 1.174.0).
Where to find it
- Desktop: open any project's Backlog, then click the board name under the "Backlog" title (tooltip "Switch board: another project, or your idea box"). Idea box is the first entry of the menu, above your projects.
- Mobile: the lightbulb icon ("Idea box") in the header of the projects list, next to the todos. The screen is titled Idea box, "Ideas that belong to no project yet".
- The board itself is synced with your account: the same ideas appear on every desktop and on the phone.
How to use it
- Switch to Idea box from the board menu. The header reads "Your idea box: ideas that belong to no project yet. Give them detail here, then move each one to its project when it is ready to be worked on."
- Click New Task and fill the ticket as on any board. Cards can be reordered, edited, selected, merged and cleaned up exactly like project tickets.
- When an idea is ready, open the card menu and choose Move to another board…, or select several cards and click Move in the selection bar. Pick the project in the Move to another board dialog (search field, then the projects open in this session under Open, then Other projects).
- The ticket travels as it is (same id, same description, same attachments, same history) and lands at the top of its column on the destination board.
Trying to start an idea directly (dragging it to In Progress, Start task, restart) opens the same move dialog with the note "An agent runs inside a project. Pick the project this idea belongs to: the ticket moves there and you can start it from that board." After that move, the board follows the ticket to the chosen project so you can start it right away.
The move works both ways: a ticket on a project board can be sent to the idea box with the same Move to another board… action, and the board menu lets you jump between projects without closing the backlog.
Settings
None. The idea box ignores the per-project backlog settings (review column, tag mode, memorize on done): it is not a project.
Agent tools (MCP)
None. The backlog_* tools address a project board (the current one, or another project named through project); the idea box is not a project and cannot be read or written by an agent.
Providers
Not applicable: no agent runs from the idea box.
Mobile
Present, with the same behaviour: the Idea box screen shows the usual board, a start attempt opens the move sheet, and Move to another board… sits in the ticket detail sheet. A project that has never been opened on a desktop is listed but refused as a destination ("This project has no board reachable from here. Open it once on the desktop first."). The board menu inside the backlog has no mobile equivalent: the Projects tab plays that role.
Limits
- Requires being signed in: the ideas live on your account.
- No agent ever runs from it. Start next, Chrome extension, Backlog settings, Import tickets, Public backlog and Send to the Idea Radar are hidden on the idea box, since they belong to a project.
- A ticket reported by a user through your public backlog never moves: its public page and its conversation belong to the board where it was filed, so the action is not offered on it.
- A move drops what only made sense on the source board: the assigned agent and reviewer (unless they are role-based assignments), the assigned team, and every link with other tickets. Re-link the ticket on the destination board if needed.
- On desktop, only projects with a checkout on this machine are listed as destinations.
Common questions
- Why can I not start an idea? There is no project behind it, so no repository and no agents. Move it to a project first: the move dialog opens on its own when you try.
- Is this the Idea Radar? No. The Radar collects what users asked for as raw signals to sort and score; the idea box holds tickets you wrote yourself and have not attached to a project yet.
- Did the move copy or move my ticket? Move: the ticket keeps its id and disappears from the source board.
- I moved a ticket and its linked tasks are gone. Links are only kept between tickets of the same board, so they are removed on move. Link again on the new board.
