One Claude Account on Two Computers, or for Two People: What Works

One Claude account can be signed in on every device you own, and they all draw from the same 5-hour and weekly limits, Claude and Claude Code together. Two people on one account is against Anthropic's terms, and there is no family plan. What we checked on October 25, 2026, and how to see which computer spent what.

The question reaches our Search Console in a dozen languages. "Kann man Claude zu zweit nutzen", "Claude Familienaccount", "Claude auf mehreren Geräten nutzen", "can two people use the same Claude account at the same time", and the same thing in Japanese and Korean about sharing a Claude Code account. Google sends all of them to our page about running several Claude Code accounts on one computer, which answers the opposite question.

There are really two questions here. One person, several devices. Several people, one account. They do not have the same answer.

We build AgentsRoom, an app that runs coding agents, so we are not neutral. We wrote this from Anthropic's help center and Consumer Terms, read on October 25, 2026, and from Claude Code 2.1.310. The parts about AgentsRoom describe what our app does; everything else you can check on Anthropic's pages.

The short answer

  • One person, several devices: yes. The same email on each one: the web, the desktop app, the mobile apps, Claude Code.
  • The limits follow the account, not the device: one five-hour session limit and one weekly limit, shared by Claude and Claude Code, on all your devices together.
  • Two people, one account: Anthropic's Consumer Terms forbid it.
  • Family plan: none, as of October 2026.
  • For two people: one account each, or a Team plan, which starts at two seats.

One account on several devices: allowed, and simple

Anthropic's help article "Log in to your Claude account" says it in one line: "To use your Claude account across multiple devices, enter the same email address you use to log in on your usual device." The mobile apps work the same way: you sign in with the email you used on the web. The login itself goes through Google or an emailed link. If you request the link on one device and open it on another, the link shows a verification code instead, to type on the device where you started.

Claude Code is the same account. On the second computer, install it and run:

claude auth login

It opens a browser page; keep the Claude subscription option and sign in with the same email. Inside a session, /login does the same. Then check which account the machine is really on:

claude auth status --text

It prints the login method (a Pro or Max account, for example), the organization and the email. Worth a look before a long session on a computer you have not used in a while.

One thing not to do: copy the ~/.claude folder, or the credentials inside it, from the first computer to skip the login on the second. When we built account sync between computers in AgentsRoom, we chose not to carry the sign-in itself, for that reason: Claude Code renews its sign-in token as it uses it, so two computers holding the same token can end up signing each other out at the first renewal. Sign in once on each computer. Each one gets its own session on the same account.

The limits are the account's, on every device at once

This is the part that surprises people. Anthropic's article "Use Claude Code with your Pro or Max plan" says: "These limits are shared across Claude and Claude Code, meaning all activity in both tools counts against the same limits." And: "Both Pro and Max plans have a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit." Max plans add a separate weekly limit for Fable. Usage inside an IDE counts toward the same limits.

Nothing in the help center splits those limits by device. They are the limits of your plan. In practice:

  • a chat on your phone at lunch and a Claude Code session on your desktop draw from the same five-hour session;
  • two computers running Claude Code at the same time empty that session twice as fast;
  • the weekly limit counts everything, whatever the device.

So when a session runs out earlier than you expected, look at your other devices first. A laptop left running an agent at home counts exactly like the one in front of you.

Seeing which computer spent what

Claude's own usage screens show the account: a percentage of the session and of the week, every device mixed. That is the right number for "how much is left". It does not tell you which computer spent it.

In AgentsRoom, the Usage panel has two views. Account shows the gauges of the account as Anthropic publishes them: every computer, claude.ai and any other tool together. Per machine shows the other side: what each of your computers spent, session by session, read from the transcripts Claude Code keeps on that machine, including sessions you ran in a plain terminal. Each desktop signed in to your AgentsRoom account sends those counts to the account, so you compare the laptop and the desktop over today, 7 days or 30 days, from either of them or from your phone.

The two views do not add up, and they are not supposed to. The gauge is Anthropic's percentage of your subscription. The per-machine figure counts Claude Code sessions only, priced at public API rates as an estimate. A long chat on claude.ai moves the first and not the second.

Two computers, but one agent at a time

Often the second computer is not a second workplace. It is the same work, continued somewhere else: an agent started on the office desktop that you want to follow from the laptop in the evening. Starting a second Claude Code session on the laptop for that doubles the draw on the same limits and splits the work into two conversations.

Remote Fleet in AgentsRoom links the computers signed in to your AgentsRoom account. From the laptop you see the desktop's projects and agents, open an agent's terminal, answer it, or start a new one over there. Everything goes through an end-to-end encrypted relay and the code stays on the machine it lives on. When you would rather have the agent with you, Continue the conversation on moves it, with its conversation, to the other computer. In both cases one agent runs on one machine, in one session.

Two people, one account: what the terms say

Anthropic's Consumer Terms, section 2 "Account creation and access", in effect since October 8, 2025: "You may not share your Account login information, Anthropic API key, or Account credentials with anyone else or make your Account available to anyone else."

It is not a technical barrier. Nothing in the app stops a second person from signing in with your email link. It is the contract you accepted, and the account stays yours: you are responsible for what happens on it.

It does not work well in practice either. Two people on one account share one five-hour session and one week. One heavy morning of Claude Code and the other person is locked out until the reset, with no way to tell who used what from Claude's own screens.

We are not going to explain how to get around it. The options that hold up:

  • one account each: Free to start, Pro or Max for whoever uses it every day;
  • a Team plan: Anthropic's pricing page describes it as "For teams of 2 to 150", each person on their own seat, Claude Code included;
  • a company paying for it: Team or Enterprise seats rather than one shared login.

Is there a Claude family plan?

No, as of October 25, 2026. Anthropic's pricing page lists Free, Pro and Max (at 5x and 20x the usage of Pro) for individuals, then Team and Enterprise. There is nothing for a household. The closest thing for two people is a Team plan at two seats, which is built for work: check the pricing page before you assume it fits a family.

If you already shared your account

Taking it back is one setting. On claude.ai in a browser: Settings, then Account, then Log Out. Anthropic's help article "How do I log out of all active sessions?" says it will "immediately sign you out of your account across all devices where you were previously logged in", and that it also logs you out of Claude Code. The option is not available in the iPhone and Android apps.

There is no password to change afterwards. Claude signs in with Google or an emailed link, so once you are logged out everywhere, the other person needs access to your email or your Google account to come back. Then sign in again on your own devices, Claude Code included.

When it is two accounts you need

Sometimes the real situation is the reverse: you have two accounts, a seat at work and a personal Pro, and you want both on one computer. For Claude Code that is solved: one configuration directory per account, set with CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, explained in how to use multiple Claude Code accounts. In AgentsRoom, each account is signed in once and a project pins the account its agents run on. For the Claude chat app on a computer or a phone, see multiple accounts in the Claude app.

Questions people actually ask

Can I use one Claude account on several devices?

Yes. Anthropic's help center says to enter the same email address you use on your usual device: the web, the desktop app, the iPhone and Android apps and Claude Code all sign in to the same account. On a second computer, run claude auth login for Claude Code. Every device draws from the same usage limits.

Do two computers on one Claude account share the same limits?

Yes. Pro and Max plans have a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit, shared across Claude and Claude Code, and nothing in Anthropic's help center splits them by device. Two computers running Claude Code at the same time empty the same session twice as fast.

Can two people use the same Claude account?

Not under Anthropic's Consumer Terms. Section 2 says you may not share your account login information or make your account available to anyone else. Two people on one account would also share one five-hour session and one week of usage. The options are one account each, or a Team plan, which starts at two seats.

Is there a Claude family plan?

No, as of October 25, 2026. Anthropic's pricing page lists Free, Pro and Max for individuals, then Team and Enterprise. Nothing is offered for a household. The smallest shared plan is Team, at two seats, and it is designed for work.

How do I sign in to Claude Code on a second computer?

Install Claude Code, run claude auth login and sign in with the same email on the browser page it opens. claude auth status --text then shows the login method, the organization and the email. Do not copy the ~/.claude folder from the other computer: Claude Code renews its sign-in token as it uses it, and two computers holding one token can sign each other out.

How do I sign out of every device at once?

On claude.ai in a browser, open Settings, then Account, and click Log Out. Anthropic says it signs you out across all devices where you were logged in, Claude Code included. The option is not in the iPhone and Android apps.

The short version

One Claude account on all your own devices is normal and allowed: same email everywhere, claude auth login on each computer, never a copied ~/.claude folder. All those devices share one five-hour session and one week, Claude and Claude Code together, so a second computer running agents spends the same budget. Two people on one account is against the terms and shares that budget badly; there is no family plan, so it is one account each or a Team plan from two seats.
