Agentic IDE

Classic IDEs revolve around a cursor. The agentic IDE revolves around agents. The cursor is an option, not the unit.

AgentsRoom is the IDE designed from day one to pilot multiple Claude Code, Codex and Gemini agents in parallel, not to bolt AI onto a text editor.

What is an agentic IDE?

A development environment where the unit of work is the AI agent, not the user's cursor. You no longer type code with autocomplete. You hand intent to an agent, which plans, codes, tests, ships. The IDE becomes a cockpit for your team of agents.

It's a separate category from AI IDEs like Cursor. Cursor still revolves around a human dev editing code with assistance. An agentic IDE accepts that at any given moment several agents are writing in parallel, on multiple branches, with no human in the middle, and that's part of the design, not an add-on.

Cursor augmented the developer. The agentic IDE replaces them with a team.

The shift in motion

Classic IDE, AI IDE, agentic IDE

Three evolution stages. Not the same product, not the same use.

Classic IDE and AI IDE

  • ·A human edits. The AI suggests.
  • ·One cursor, one file at a time.
  • ·Built around typing, autocomplete, search.
  • ·Multi-agent is grafted on, often a side panel.

Agentic IDE

  • +Agents code. The human approves.
  • +Several agents in parallel, each on its branch.
  • +Built to orchestrate, observe, review.
  • +The human cursor is an option, not the center.

The 4 traits of an agentic IDE

Without them, it's not an agentic IDE, it's an editor with an AI side panel.

1

Agents first

Starting, stopping, watching agents is the primary action, not a hidden feature. The dashboard is central. Terminals and editor serve the agents, not the reverse.

2

Shared context

Backlog, prompts, snapshots, diffs: all reachable by any agent. CLAUDE.md, linked prompts, scratchpad and backlog live in the same app, not in five tools.

3

Per-agent scoped review

The diff is filtered by agent. You see exactly what one agent touched, no blend. The only way to keep ownership when five agents write to the same repo.

4

Native multi-provider

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Aider: all orchestrated in the same app. Pick the model per agent or switch mid-session without losing context.

Agentic IDE FAQ

Why not just use Cursor or VS Code with an AI plugin?+
Because those tools are built around a human dev typing. Adding multi-agent on top is grafting a car onto a horse. An agentic IDE is built so ten agents can run in parallel, be observed and arbitrated, without the text editor becoming the bottleneck.
Do I have to drop my current IDE?+
No. AgentsRoom coexists with VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains. You can open code in your editor of choice while AgentsRoom pilots agents and keeps review central. Many users keep their favorite editor and use AgentsRoom as the control tower.
Is an agentic IDE only for power users?+
No. You can start with one agent and use it as an assistant. The path to multi-agent comes when you're ready. The strength of AgentsRoom: it scales with you, from solo to a team of five devs running ten agents in parallel.
Does the agentic IDE replace the developer?+
It replaces certain motions: autocomplete typing, boilerplate, surface debugging. It doesn't replace decision, architecture, review. The developer moves from operator to conductor. A role shift, not a removal.
Which agents run in an agentic IDE?+
In AgentsRoom, any CLI agent: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Aider. You can mix providers, assign roles (dev, QA, architect, PM), wire MCP servers and let agents talk to each other.
