## What it does

Tiles a project's workspace into several panes so you watch several agents at once, side by side, in one window. Drag one agent's terminal onto an edge of another pane, iTerm2 style: left or right splits into columns, top or bottom stacks into rows; the targeted half highlights during the drag. The split is N-way, the whole layout shares one orientation you flip with one click, and every pane keeps its agent's role colour, avatar and live status, with a focus ring on the active pane. A pane can be pinned so it keeps its slot while you browse the rest of the fleet, and a pane can show an agent from another project, so two projects sit side by side. Layouts, orientation and pins are saved per project and restored on relaunch.

## Where to find it

- Inside a project, with at least two open terminals: drag a pane's header badge onto an edge of another pane.
- Pane header: the ⋯ **Pane options** menu on the primary pane (**Split the view** / **Show this pane alone**, **Arrange side by side** / **Stack panes**, **Detach into a window**, **Files & Git**, **Memorize now**, **Close agent session**), a **Pin this pane** button and the close button.
- Secondary panes: a "pane content" picker, **Pin this pane** and close.
- Right-click an agent row: **Pin this pane**. Right-click a project tile in the top row: **Open side by side**.
- Dev command terminals: right-click a tab for Split Horizontal / Split Vertical.

## How to use it

1. Open two agents. Grab the second one's terminal by its header badge and drop it on the left, right, top or bottom edge of the first pane.
2. Repeat to add panes. Flip **Arrange side by side** / **Stack panes** from the toolbar or the pane menu.
3. Click another agent: the split stays alive in the background and comes back intact when you return to one of its agents.
4. To keep a reference session on screen, click **Pin this pane**: "the next agents you open take the pane beside it instead of replacing it". Pin as many panes as you like; the one free pane follows your clicks. When every pane is pinned, a new agent gets an extra pane.

Two projects side by side: right-click a project tile and choose **Open side by side**, drag a project tile onto another, or use the merge handle between two tiles. The target tile becomes the room, the other project appears as a pane and as its own section in the agent column, with a **+** to add an agent in that project. The merged tiles read as one selection; clicking the other member keeps the pair.

## Settings

None. Pane groups, orientation and pins are remembered per project automatically.

## Agent tools (MCP)

None.

## Providers

All providers, no difference: each pane is an independent session, so Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, OpenCode, Aider and the others can share one split.

## Mobile

Not available on the mobile companion: the phone shows one agent at a time, with the room list and the Activity tab to move between them.

## Limits

- Panes share the space of the window; the number of panes is limited by your screen, not by a hard-coded maximum.
- A detached floating window shows one project only: a pane from another project is dropped there.
- The focused (primary) pane always belongs to the room's own project; a foreign pane can carry the visual focus but not the room focus.
- Closing an agent from its own project also removes its pane from the other projects' layouts.
- A project opened in its own window keeps its own split layout there; the main window shows a notice in place of that project's panes (see [Project Window](https://agentsroom.dev/docs/project-window.md)).
- Do not confuse **Pin this pane** with **Pin to top of list** (see [Pin an Agent to the Top of the List](https://agentsroom.dev/docs/agent-roster-pinning.md)): one decides where an agent is displayed, the other where it is listed.

## Common questions

- **How many panes can I show?** No hard-coded maximum; as many as fit your screen.
- **If I click a different agent, do I lose my split?** No. The split stays alive in the background and returns when you come back; pin a pane if you want it to stay on screen meanwhile.
- **Can I split horizontally and vertically?** The layout has one orientation at a time, flipped with one click between columns and stacked rows.
- **Does it work for dev terminals?** Yes, with the same drag and drop plus a right-click Split Horizontal / Split Vertical.
- **Is the layout kept on restart?** Yes, per project, including pins; agents that no longer exist are dropped cleanly.
