## What it does

The screen you see when no project is selected: every project of the account as a grid grouped by folder, with a big search bar on top and a toolbar to sort and filter. The search bar has two modes plus a shortcut: **Projects** filters the grid (and the sidebar and the project switcher at the same time, since they share one search), **Build** opens the welcome chat under the bar so you can say what you want in plain words and be taken there, and **Help** is not a mode at all, it opens the AgentsRoom Help bubble. Filters narrow the grid by machine (which computer hosts the repository) and by tag (free labels you put on projects). A **Recently opened** card in the left panel answers "where was I" at all times.

Since 1.181.0 the same large bar sits on top of every list of the app: Teams, Triggers, Tunnels, the Prompts, Skills and Memory libraries and their Community tab, the Backlog board, Radar, Dev commands, SSH connections, Databases and Secrets. Each one says what it searches (**Search a team by name, purpose or role**, **Search triggers**, **Search a tunnel or a server**), has the same **Clear the search** button, and a list that finds nothing says so instead of looking empty. The controls that belong to the search (scope, sort, category) sit inside the bar; the create buttons sit on their own row.

## Where to find it

- Click the AgentsRoom home (deselect the current project) or open a project's parent list from the sidebar.
- The search bar sits at the top of the page, with the **Projects** / **Build** / **Help** selector on its right.
- Each zone ends with a dashed **+** tile split in three: **Open project** (a folder you already have), **Create a workspace** (a name and a mission, no repository) and **Open the guide**.
- Toolbar next to the grid: sort **Recent** / **Name**, **Duplicates**, **Filter by machine**, **Filter by tag**. On the right of the same toolbar: **New folder**, then the **GitHub** and **GitLab** import buttons.
- Tags are set in the project modal (creation and edit), field **Tags**, and shown as chips on the project card (three visible, then +N).

## How to use it

1. Type in the bar: the grid shrinks as you type; Enter opens the first tile, Escape clears.
2. Switch to **Build** to describe what you want: the conversation opens under the bar and ends on one button that performs the action. It is the same chat as the first screen of a fresh install, see [Welcome Chat](https://agentsroom.dev/docs/welcome-chat.md). **Help** opens [AgentsRoom Help](https://agentsroom.dev/docs/agentsroom-help.md) instead and leaves the bar as it was.
3. **Filter by machine**: choose **All machines**, **This machine** or a named host (an SSH offload server, another desktop of the account). The list only appears when there is more than one host.
4. **Filter by tag**: click one or several tags; they combine as a union (client-x OR perso). **Clear** removes them. The row only appears once at least one project is tagged.
5. **Duplicates** keeps only projects that share a name, handy after importing clones.
6. **New folder** creates an empty zone without a project: click it, type the **Folder name** and press Enter. The zone's settings open right away on the **Workspaces** tab so you can choose where its workspaces will be stored, and the empty zone stays on the home with its own **+** tile until you file something in it. Its **Root folder** card offers **Create the first workspace**.
7. Each folder group's header carries two always-visible buttons next to its name: the gear (**Folder settings**, the defaults its projects inherit) and the bin (**Delete folder (children move up)**). The bin asks "Delete the folder "X"? Its contents move up one level." and destroys nothing: the projects and sub-folders inside move up, on this computer and on every other computer of the account.

Tags: up to 8 per project, 24 characters each, case-insensitive ("Prod" and "prod" are the same tag). A tag typed in any project search also matches.

## Settings

- `hideWorkProjects` (global, Settings > View): hide the projects of the "Work" zone (demo aid).
- The three filters (machine, tags, duplicates) are never persisted; only the sort survives a restart.

## Agent tools (MCP)

- `projects_list`: the same project list, for agents.

## Providers

All providers, no difference.

## Mobile

Project search and tags are on the phone with the same words, the same limits and the same union rule (**Filter by tag**, **Search projects…**). The machine filter is not on the phone; the phone keeps its own Activity / Groups toggle. The **Build** and **Help** cells are not on the phone.

The **+** button in the header of the Projects tab (**Add a project**) is the phone's counterpart of the + tile: **Open an existing project** (browse the connected desktop's folders) and **Create a workspace**, both executed on the connected desktop. Details in [Workspaces](https://agentsroom.dev/docs/workspaces.md). **New folder** is desktop only; the zones it creates are offered in the phone's **Folder** selector the next time the sheet opens.

## Limits

- Tags live in the project's local configuration: they do not sync to another computer.
- Tag chips are shown on the home cards only, not in the sidebar or the project switcher (search still matches them there).
- When a filter leaves nothing, the grid explains it and offers **Reset the filters**; a search with no match says so separately.
- The free plan opens a limited number of projects at once; the grid still lists all of them.

## Common questions

- **Where did the Activity / Groups view switch go?** Removed from this page: the grid is always grouped by folder, and the **Recently opened** card in the left panel gives the activity order permanently.
- **Why does my machine filter not show up?** Every project is on this machine: the filter appears only when a second host exists.
- **Can I search by folder path?** Yes, the search matches name, zone, path and tags.
- **Are tags folders?** No: a project sits in one folder but can carry several tags.
- **How do I create a folder before I have a project to put in it?** **New folder** in the toolbar: it creates the zone empty and opens its settings on the **Workspaces** tab. The zone stays on the home with a **+** tile.
- **I created a folder and it vanished when I closed its settings.** Fixed on 2026-09-15: an empty zone now stays painted on the home, except while a search or a filter narrows the grid.
- **How do I get rid of a group of projects I created by mistake?** The bin in the group's header on the home (or the same action in the sidebar). What was inside moves up one level; no project and no file is deleted.
- **I deleted a folder and it came back when I opened AgentsRoom on my other computer.** Fixed on 2026-09-29: a deletion now travels with the folder tree as a fact of its own, so the other machine learns about it instead of pushing its own copy back. Both machines need the fix; the children are re-parented one level up on each of them.
- **Escape in a search bar closed the window instead of clearing my query.** Since 1.181.0 Escape empties the bar first (on the home and on every list); a second Escape, with the bar empty, closes the window as before.
- **Why is there no search bar in my Teams window?** It appears from two teams: with a single team there is nothing to search.
